Writing With a Theme
When writing, a good tool to use is a theme motif. A previous article that I wrote about the rhythm of writing is a good illustration of that. (I used dancing as the main theme of the piece.) Using the term dance and related words and phrases about dancing, I was able to create a written motif for my topic, which was the rhythm of writing. Using a theme is a creative way of making your points and also entertaining your readers.
Whatever you are writing about, try to find a correlation with something that the reader can identify with and play on and with that theme throughout your writing. Use parallels and analogies filled with descriptions.
Writing with a theme also keeps your "ducks in a row". It forces you to be sure that your material is relevant to the topic at hand and keeps the point of what you are writing about the main focus, which is what good writing is all about. Fantastically written sentences are out of place and of no use if those thrilling strings of words are not central to your theme.
The only limit to motif writing is your creativity. Use word pictures to decorate your writing and the results will be the same as a carefully planned party. You will gain the reputation of being the ultimate host/hostess and your guests will be clamoring for more.
What theme will you be using today?
