They call me the Storyteller. Why? Well, you’ll see in just a minute. I was with the Master Storyteller Himself and He told me a story that changed my life. It’s a story about love. TRUE love. Not the hokey, melodramatic stuff that you see on soap operas but the real thing. It was awesome the way He told it to me. This story warmed my heart. It made me believe in love again, made me believe that life truly was worth living. I relive it over and over in my heart for it makes me feel close to the heroes in the tale. So, pull up a chair, open up your heart and relive the tale of….
From This Day Forward
The package came to him first class, priority mail. It was a strange package. It was an intriguing package. In it were three things: a map, a key, and a letter with a short note. The note said:
Collin,
This map contains the location of treasures beyond your wildest imaginations. Find the door and you’ll never want again. Hold onto the key for there is none other like it on earth. I only made one. I made it for you. I buried the treasure for only you to find. It’s waiting for you as am I. I’ll see you at journeys end.
Waiting…
Reading the letter for a second time, Collin wondered what it meant. Who was waiting for him and why had HE been chosen? He was an ordinary man by his accounts. But Collin was no ordinary man. He was a good man. He was a hard-working man. He was the kind of man that made you smile, made you want to be around him. He was a hero only he didn’t know it at the time. Deciding to find out the mystery of the package, Collin prepared to set out on a journey to find the buried treasure. Meanwhile, miles and miles away….
The package came to her first class, priority mail. It was a strange package. It was an intriguing package. In were three things: a compass, a pair of glasses and a letter addressed to her. The letter said:
Susan,
This compass will guide you to the location of treasures beyond your wildest imaginations. Find the treasure and you’ll never want again. The glasses are special for they will allow you to see the treasure buried deep beneath the surface. Hold onto them for there is no others like them on earth. I made them just for you. The treasure is waiting for you as am I. I’ll see you at journeys end.
Waiting…
Reading the letter for the second time, Susan wondered what it meant. Who was waiting for her and why had SHE been chosen? She was just an ordinary woman. But Susan was no ordinary woman. She was an awesome woman; she was a giving woman. She had a gentle spirit and blessed the lives of those around her. Deciding to find out the mystery of the package, Susan prepared to set out on a journey to find this buried treasure.
For many days, both Collin and Susan scoured the world to find this buried treasure. Days turned into months, months turned into years and still the treasure remained unfound. They scoured the earth in great places and small but neither could locate the treasure. The journey taught them both many things and was a "treasure" all in itself. Along the way, they met many friends, found rewarding careers and loved life as best they could but something was missing. There was a nagging ache to find the buried treasure.
Collin nearly gave up in discouragement, but taking one look at the key decided the treasure would be worth the effort it took to find it. Susan almost heaved her glasses at the nearest passing bus, but taking one look at them, decided to make another effort. They visited all the vast monuments of the world and couldn’t find the treasure. They hired private detectives, took out classified ads in the paper and still could not find the treasure.
Finally, Collin saw the ad that Susan placed, and Susan saw the ad that Collin had placed. Deciding to join forces, they traipsed the world in search of their buried treasure. Together the pair wended their way to places great and small with no luck. The disappointments didn’t seem so disappointing this time for this time they had someone to share them with. They learned together, they grew together, and they learned to love each other. Collin found in Susan, a fragile precious rose. Susan found in Collin, a knight in shining armor. She found someone to laugh with. He found someone to grow with.
Time passed with no sign of the secret treasure. Deciding Susan was much more important than the priceless treasure, Collin gave up the search asking for Susan’s hand in marriage. To him, she was far more valuable than any old treasure on earth. Money comes and goes but he wanted Susan for a lifetime. Deciding that Collin was much more awesome than all the gold in Fort Knox, Susan agreed to become Collin’s wife. His smiles were worth their weight in diamonds. Besides, there was only one Collin and he was FAR too important to risk losing over buried treasure.
Wanting the other to know how much they truly cared, Collin and Susan made a ceremony out of burning the map and hurling the compass into the bottom of the sea. Collin kept the key to remind him of his journey and Susan did likewise with her glasses. With that done they made plans for their wedding preparing for their life’s journey together.
Their wedding day will go down in history as they had an honored guest in attendance. For in attendance sat none other than the owner of the treasure Himself. After the ceremony, he lovingly placed a package in Collins arms, kissed Susan tenderly on the cheek and was off. Finding a quiet spot alone, the newlyweds opened the package and were astounded by what they found. For inside the package was their map and the compass that they had tossed at the bottom of the sea. Puzzled, Collin reached into the small package and found a letter addressed to Susan and him.
The letter read:
Beloved Collin and Susan,
I knew you’d find it! I knew you’d find the buried treasure. Most never do as you have both done. Most never reach out of their comfort zones long enough to find the treasures that I have placed within their grasp. You have found something much more important than silver, and much more priceless than gold. You have found the treasures of the human heart.
Collin, the key that I gave you was to Susan’s heart. It was made, polished and protected by My own hands. You’ll find in her heart treasures without measure and without price. You’ll find in her heart an indomitable spirit, and love beyond your wildest dreams. Take care of her heart Collin for it is priceless. SHE is priceless. I have given you the HONOR of loving her, as no other man will ever be able to do. You have something of such infinite value that I only made one: her heart. As you hold her in your arms, never forget that you hold priceless treasure. As you feel her heart beating next to yours, never forget that you have been given the awesome blessing of living with, growing with, and loving a woman of great beauty, strength and poise. Hold onto your key in remembrance of these words, Collin. Hold onto your key in remembrance.
Susan, the glasses that I gave you were also made with my own hands. They are special for they were made only for you. They were made so that you could see the vastness of your Collin’s heart. He has treasures buried deep inside that most people have never seen. They have looked at his outward exterior, they have looked at his monetary stature, but none has looked deep inside his heart to see the greatness of his heart, of his life. Beloved, you were given the great honor of witnessing treasures that no one else will ever see. The treasures are yours. Treasure them. Treasure him for he is priceless to Me. His heart contains strength beyond measure, his compassion is boundless for I have made it so. His gentleness, his kindness was placed there by Me. Hold onto your glasses in remembrance of these words, dear Susan. Hold onto your glasses in remembrance.
Love each other from this day forward, dear children; love each other from this day forward. Love Each other as I love you: without conditions, without limits, and without fear.
God
With trembling hands, Collin gently placed the key in his beloved Susan’s hand. Tenderly closing her fingers around the key, he held both to his heart. With tear-filled eyes, Susan quietly placed the glasses in the palm of Collin’s hand. Gingerly closing his fingers around them, she humbly brought them both to her lips. Looking deeply into the other’s eyes, both solemnly vowed to love each other as intently and as fiercely as they had while in search of the buried treasure. They vowed to love each other…
