Writing Tips![]() 1) Activate your senses. Buy a big, fat orange and experience the spray of the juice, the color of the plump segments, and the taste of the twang as you bite into the succulent skin. Walk through a carpet of pine needles and feel the damp air of a shaded forest. Go barefoot in your backyard and feel the sun caressing your face. Opening yourself to sensations stimulates creativity and adds vibrance to your writing. 2) Become a people person. Learning about people is a rewarding "tool" for writers. Facial expressions, ways of speech, and the endearing quirks and qualities of our fellow human beings have much to say to the astute observer of life. Writing is just as dynamic and often as perplexing as the inhabitants of our world. There is a lesson to be learned given by every person you will encounter. Broaden your horizons and your writing will reap the rewards. (Besides, you'll have lots of interesting stories and tidbits to add to your work.LOL) 3) Put your writing dreams on paper. Words are powerful; even more so are written words. Writing your dreams reinforces and recommits you when the wings of inspiration have taken flight. Just as the sun always shines whether you see it or not, your passion for writing is always alive and well, even on those days when the only voice you hear is the one of doubt and discouragement. Keep your dreams before you and your pen in front of you...sooner, rather than later, those inevitable doubts will be far behind you. 4) Eat chocolate. No matter what kind of a writing day I have, I always feel better with chocolate. (For those wanting to be health-conscious, chocolate-covered strawberries are excellent.*grin*) The main point of this point is for you to get the point not to take your writing or your life so seriously that you forget to take a few moments to treat yourself with a treat. And try not to be redundant. If you are, you'll only keep saying the same thing over and over and over...kind of like what I am doing. Get the point?*smile* If that last tip made anybody smile, it was well worth the torture of stringing it together...and you along.LOL Editor's Pick of the Month![]() So, did you do any reading last month? I did. I recently finished The Summerhouse by Jude Devereaux. It was an interesting book about three women who had a chance to relive a three-week period in their lives. If you could relive a specific three-week period of your life, what would it be and why? Submit your stories and I'll feature them in next month's newsletter. I look forward to hearing your responses.
