Welcome to my writing tips page. As the title suggests, I’ll be giving you writing tips that will improve your writing, inspire you, and keep you encouraged. This writing world that we love so much can be tricky to navigate. This web page will provide you with a useful compass. Get out your writing pad. (Or just bookmark this page instead.)
Writing Tips #1
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. We, as both writers and human beings, have been so conditioned to avoid mistakes that we often avoid challenges and stretching ourselves for fear of making them, when doing the opposite (embracing mistakes) has so much writing value. Making mistakes open up new avenues to explore and sometimes force us to think outside the box and that is good. So, the next time you make fumble around with your writing, be encouraged. The spot you are in holds valuable—but hidden—wisdom. Explore it.
Writing Tips #2
Always carry writing materials. I can’t tell you how many times I have been out, or sleeping, or shopping when an idea, a sentence, or an article has popped into my head. I usually grab the handiest item in my bag and start scribbling furiously.
Some of my best material has come to me when I was just at the edge of sleep or waiting for the line at Wal-Mart to shrink. I’ve learned the value of keeping a writing tablet handy so that I can get my ideas down before they evaporate. (If I don’t get my thoughts written down, I usually am unable to reconstruct my ideas in the same brilliant fashion that they had occurred to me.) So—words of wisdom—don’t forget to keep your writing tools handy. I promise you that they’ll be needed. Often.
Writing Tips #3
Use your everyday surroundings as inspiration. If you don’t make a habit of being aware of your surroundings, start doing so. There are oodles and oodles of writing material (and lessons) at your disposal. Falling snow, gnarled traffic, or a deer dancing across the road hold numerous writing experiences that will enhance your talents and expand your horizons. The next time an inconvenience occurs, don’t see delays. See creativity hidden within.
