SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
· Romance: contemporary or historical (no restrictions on time period). We
are looking for compelling stories with the love relationship between the
heroine and hero as the central element, concluding in a happy ending.
Should be written in the third person singular.
Your story does not need to follow the strict romance novel format. However,
it must deal with relationships and be written from a woman's point of view.
SOME ADVICE ON SUBMITTING A ROMANTIC SHORT STORY
You have invested a great deal of time and effort to write your story . To
ensure that an editor will read it, adhere to a standard presentation:
· 300 - 700 words maximum
· Use tabs for dialogue and new paragraphs.
· No profanity or offensive language
Before you submit, read it critically and ask yourself whether:
· the punctuation is correct, particularly the dialogue quote marks
· the text is free of repetitions, redundancies, and grammatical errors
· there's a literary hook - a literary hook is the few words which will grab
the reader's attention
· the hero/heroine are three dimensional, not two dimensional cutouts
· there's a balance between narrative and dialogue
· the narrative isn't loaded with unnecessary details
· there's no author intrusion (i.e., "little did Mary know what was going to
happen")
If you cannot check mark all of the above, go back to the drawing board. Your
work is not ready for submission and you are courting rejection, even if
your story is terrific.
